Nantahalla Summer Trip Day 5 - Springer Mountain, Ga.

Liam and Mitchell here to tell you about North Carolina 2014 Trip Day 5. Today was a hike on the Appalachian Trail and Benton Mackaye Trail. The day started with reveille, a wakeup call on a bugle, played by Mr. K at se

ven thirty. I, Liam, said a prayer at seven forty five and breakfast followed.  After breakfast we packed our lunches and headed for the trail.

After car ride filled with Harry Potter movies, jokes, and a few sing along songs we arrived at the trail. We started on a six mile hike, and after one mile of hiking the Appalachian Trail we arrived at Springer Mountain. After twenty minutes of enjoying the scenic view we backtracked three tenths of a mile to the Benton Mackaye Trail and started hiking. About a quarter of the way down the five mile trail to the parking lot we stopped for lunch. As we finished laying out the food four army men with huge guns came up to us. Don’t worry they were just checking for hikers because they were about to do a training exercise. After they left we had lunch. After lunch Evan entertained us with some interesting trivia questions about the Appalachian Trail. We started on our way back to the parking lot, but not before another scenic view, some scout advancements, and a huge magnolia forest. After about three miles in the forest we finally arrived at the cars.  Shay and Mitchell, who were ahead, bolt for the cars like Spartan Warriors.

After the long car ride home we went canoeing and fishing in the lake. Luke R. finally caught a fish and then we had coneys for dinner, and told stories around the fire. A special shout out to Mrs. Cu for her wonderful cookie crumble and to the Mr. Gr for their pudding and animal crackers. This is Liam and Mitchell signing off.

The Insider : Oh how things get missed.. Did I mention that Mr. Ke drives like a NASCAR driver? Or that Mr. H hit a squirrel a couple days ago with his car, so he promised the group roasted squirrel brains, but after today Mr. R can add his turtle and dead snake that Big Blue took out on our way to Springer Mountain for dinner too. Mr. Ka drove Mr. G’s truck so carefully not to hit any potholes or even spin a tire, he drives too slow for me, I would rather drive with Mr. Ke. Even Grandpa Harold can drive faster. We missed “Rocky” today she had to leave us. Finally, Mr. A is been known to do monkey calls in the middle of the night, I think he is part sasquatch? More to come from The Trader.

It all sounds you're having a very exciting adventure. Zip lining, white water rafting, hiking, it all sounds a bit like an Indiana Jones movie except no one is trying to kill you!! lol
I'm really missing Evan A. Can't wait for him to come home unless you can squeeze in one more day of panning for gems !! JK Enjoy your adventures tomorrow, and I can't wait to read about them. Happy Camping !!! Mrs. P. A.
